You may have seen the words wonder-connect-create accompanying my logo. These words encompass some of my values and guide the intention I pour into what I offer. They get me back on track when I feel down or separate from myself or my purpose. Have you connected with your values, your purpose, something that guides and uplifts you lately?
Here, the past month has offered many opportunities to remember why I chose wonder as a guiding entity. To me wonder is about embracing curiosity, approaching the novel and the familiar with an attitude of inquiry. I also love the definition of wonder as a noun (a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration).
So here’s an example: Last month, I got to spend some time with my niece who is now 8 months old. I was absolutely enthralled watching her gently rock from her seat on the floor toward one hip, testing her steadiness and pushing a little further each time, until she transitioned onto her hands and knees. She did this over and over. Sometimes she stayed in quadruped and rocked, even shakily picking up one hand and moving it a tiny step forward on occasion. Sometimes she flopped onto her belly and reached for me to help her start the whole process over again. I am endlessly fascinated with watching development unfold in front of my eyes; whether the person I’m witnessing is 8 months or 8 years or 80 years old. I believe this is why I am so called to teaching. I am also endlessly fascinated with trying to better understand what contributes to our stopping or forgetting to marvel at and celebrate our capacity to learn and grow and be!
I find that this commitment to wonder wakes me up again and again to the grace unfolding in each moment. This is also yoga and I am so grateful to be able to share it with you.
