As I witness the passing of the anniversary of a year of living differently, I notice the thawing occurring in the external environment as well as within me. I’m honoring and allowing the desire to get moving, to soak in the warmth of the sun, to turn my face to the light. I’m simultaneously noticing a surfacing of grief and some lingering confusion accumulated in the past year that needs tending to. So, I am also honoring this request for going slow and creating space to let these feelings flow and teach me. It is my hope that the practices of yoga continue to build our abilities to notice what is with less attachment and/or aversion and to respond with increasing clarity and care.
From Wintering by Katherine May :
“Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible. It’s a time for reflection and recuperation, for slow replenishment, for putting your house in order. Doing these deeply unfashionable things — slowing down, letting your spare time expand, getting enough sleep, resting — is a radical act now, but it’s essential.”
Guiding people toward an appreciation of these deeply unfashionable things is my specialty!
